Is this not the cutest thing you have seen?! A small fire pit or fire place - whatever you want to call it. I saw this in an old magazine and wanted to make one for some time now.
This can be used indoors or outdoors. The smoke did get less, the longer it burnt, but we will get a different type of fuel to use indoors. {Bio-Heat is a smokeless cooking fuel gel which will work 100% indoors}
First we built a wooden frame with a base attached at the bottom which we painted a medium grey.
2 - 350 x 70 x 20mm Planks {front and back}
2 - 250 x 70 x 20mm Planks {sides}
1 - 350 x 290mm Plank/other {for the base}
The glass we had cut at a local glass supplier in the following sizes:
2 - 300 x 200 x 3mm {front and back}
2 - 250 x 200 x 3mm {sides}
We used clear Marine Silicone as an adhesive and built a rectangular glass "box" which fitted nicely into the wooden frame we have built.
All we had was a small piece of steel mesh {NOTE: always make double sure you have enough for a project and do not assume - that's more a reminder to myself!}
So, here we cut and shaped the steel mesh to fit inside the wooden box.
Cut a round hole, big enough for a tin can to fit through - insert the can securely.
Place inside the wooden box {see ours is a tad too small - but not a problem}.
We simply filled the open sides with stones until it was all packed tight.
Filled up with stones to the same height as the can and add fuel.
Light your fire, sit back and enjoy!
Cheri's dog, Nahla even had to come have a look but she quickly moved on when she felt the heat...
