My hubby and I had a wonderful anniversary trip to California. I thought it would be filled with picturesque romantic walks on the beach and nice dinners out, but it ended up being long days of fun in the sun that had us falling into bed early each night. That is just a reflection of who we are~ active, outdoorsy people! We stayed on Illinois Time and enjoyed watching the sunrise each day.
Our first 4 days were spent in San Diego, where we met and married 25 years ago. We stayed in a condo in South Mission Beach that overlooked the Mission Bay Inlet. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony and watching the boats, tide, animals, and people.
No trip to Cali is complete without a trip to Rubio's. We went 4 times on the trip because we *LOVE* their fish tacos.
We loved biking around Mission Beach and Mission Bay each day. We kayaked in La Jolla Cove. We went out to Point Loma and drove around the city a little bit, including our old apartments in Chula Vista. We went over to Coronado and down the strand, where we discovered the Tijuana River Estuary in Imperial Beach. We saw some endangered birds that were really cool. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset each day.
Then we headed north and visited our son, who moved to Long Beach last month. We got to spend a few hours with him and as we were leaving I surprised my hubby with a trip to Catalina Island. I booked this getaway over 6 months ago and he had NO idea! He was very excited. We went to Catalina Island on our honeymoon cruise, so the surprise was very fitting.
We stayed in a gorgeous condo at Hamilton Cove. The view was awesome!
My birthday was the 2nd day on Catalina, which was awesome because Catalina has a special birthday club with many freebies or BOGOs on your birthday. We took advantage of the BOGO parasail offer.

We enjoyed exploring the island using the golf cart that came along with the condo rental.
Catalina Island is really feeling the affects of the drought, but it was still beautiful!
After our Catalina fun, we returned to the mainland and spent more time with our son. We introduced him to Rubio's.
Then we headed back to San Diego and enjoyed a seafood dinner, long walk along the Embarcadero, and a final sunset.
We had a wonderful time, but were glad to get home to see the kiddos. A few people that we met along the trip couldn't believe we've been married for 25 years and commented that we must have been teens when we married. Not quite, but thanks for the compliments!
