It's that time of year when we get invited to graduation parties. We know people graduating from law school, college, and high school. I always try to bring a gift that is a little different from others, and this year is no exception. I saw that the Share a Coke campaign was back and thought it would be a fun way to celebrate the grad.
Back when I was in college, finals meant Cherry Coke and cheese crackers. It's what got me through every exam. I wish that they had fun bottles and cans back then like they do today in the
Share a Coke campaign. This year's campaign features 1,000 names, fun terms like "Class of 2015", abbreviations like "VIP", and emoticons on various sized bottles and cans.
I stopped by my local Schnucks last week and found the names of the graduates whose parties we would be attending. It was fun to pick the names and appropriate terms. You can find Coke products in the soda aisle, pallet displays, in coolers near check out, and special end cap displays at
Schnucks. I got a 2 liter bottle of Coke with "Class of 2015", an 8 pack of 12 ounce Coke Zero with "VIP" "#1" and a few other terms, and 20 ounce Coke bottles with the graduates names on them. I also picked up a few other supplies to create a fun gift bucket.
Coke Bottle Graduate & Gift Bucket
Supplies: Coke bottles, craft foam, embroidery floss, tissue paper, bucket, scissors, paper cutter, hole punch, glue gun. Optional: money (bill) for diploma.
Directions: Cut foam into 3" squares and punch out a few mini circles from leftover foam. Cut 3 pieces of embroidery floss about 7" long. Take 2 strands and fold them in half twice. Tie the folded strands to the end of the other strand with a contrasting color of floss. Trim the tie and the ends of the folded pieces to create a tassel. Glue the end of the tassel to the middle of the top of the foam square. Glue a foam dot on top to form the mortar board (cap). Glue the mortar board to the top of the Coke bottle.
Diploma: Cut a piece of floss about the size of your bill (a little over 6"). Take your bill and tightly roll it up. Wrap the floss around the middle of it several times and double knot. Trim your knot. Apply a little bit of hot glue to the floss on the back of the diploma and immediately stick to the Coke bottle. Optional: Glue card to back of bottle. I made this for Joshua, who is graduating from high school tonight.
I also put together a Coke Bottle Graduate Bucket for our friend, Melissa, who recently graduated from Northern Illinois University (hence the red and black.) I added black graduation caps to a 2 liter bottle and two 20 ounce bottles of Coke. Then I put red caps with black tassels on the 12 ounce black Coke Zero bottles.
I took a red bucket and lined it with black and zebra tissue paper and arranged the Coke graduates. I also included two Coca-Cola Glasses that were
filled with zebra tissue and then the Coke Zero graduates. Melissa was thrilled with her graduation bucket!
