With the cooler weather this week it feels like fall. That means it's time to bake. Here is a fantastic poke cake recipe made with M&M's® Pecan Pie.
You've probably heard the buzz online that there is a new Pecan Pie flavored M&M's® that just hit Walmart stores. I was so excited that I had to run out and pick some up. I love M&M's® and Pecan Pie, so I knew this was a winner. They did not disappoint!

While the kids and I could eat an entire bag, I started thinking of fun desserts that I could create with this new variety of candies. I love to create poke cakes, so why not a pecan pie flavored one? I thought I could make up the filling of a pecan pie to pour into the holes of a poke cake, but that wouldn't work because the filling needs to be baked. My brain filed through possibilities and I came up with butter pecan and pecan pralines. Bingo! I'm going to put butter pecans and pralines all together. Yum yum!!
I went to Walmart and picked up some great ingredients for this cake. Pillsbury™ Moist Supreme® Cake Mix has a Golden Butter variety, which I knew would be perfect for this. I love to mix it up, so I picked up some Mott's® Apple Sauce to use instead of vegetable oil. Nothing says fall like cream cheese frosting, so I grabbed some Pillsbury™ Creamy Supreme® Cream Cheese Icing. Don't forget the M&M's® Pecan Pie! It can be found on an end cap or on the seasonal aisle. Right now you can save $1.00 off ANY TWO (2) M&M's® Chocolate Candies, 9.4oz or larger. This Walmart digital coupon is available in limited numbers, so get it here while supplies last.
This cake is beautiful and easy to make!

Ingredients (24 servings)
  • Pillsbury™ Moist Supreme® Golden Butter Cake Mix
  • 1/3 cup Mott's® Apple Sauce
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 1/2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 cup crushed pecans
  • 2 cups butter
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • Pillsbury™ Creamy Supreme® Cream Cheese Icing
  • 1 1/2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
  • M&M's® Pecan Pie
Instructions

1. Place the cake mix, apple sauce, eggs, water, spice, and pecans in a mixing bowl and mix for 2 minutes.
2. Pour into a greased 9x13 baking dish and bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.
3. While the cake is cooling a little bit, make the pralines. Place the butter and brown sugar in a sauce pan and bring to a boil while stirring constantly. Keep stirring and boil for 90 seconds. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla and pecans.
4. Poke holes in the cake every inch or so with the end of a wooden spoon.
5. Slowly pour the pralines into the holes of the cake.
6. Cover the cake entirely with the pralines.
7. Put the cake in the refrigerator to cool and the pralines harden for 1-2 hours.
8. Carefully remove the foil from the top of the icing and microwave for 20-30 seconds. Add the spice.
9. Stir the spice into the icing.
10. Pour the icing over the entire cake. Some of it will go into the holes.
11. Smooth out the icing to cover the cake evenly.
12. Sprinkle the M&M's® on top of the cake.

Cover and store in refrigerator.

This cake is divine! My daughter and I just loved the pralines and licked the sauce pan clean after it cooled off. I enjoyed a big piece with a bottle of Snapple® Apple. How is that for a little Fall in your mouth?
We took it to a weekly TV viewing party and our friend were very excited to try it. I brought home an empty dish. They complimented the spice cake and cream cheese combination and said it was perfect for this week's cooler weather!
